Before you drop off your iPad, please sign out of your Apple ID.
You may have logged into your Apple ID to activate services offered by Apple. We need you to signout of your Apple ID because the iPad will want this to happen before the type of update we are doing.
The signout process will ask you if you want to remove Apple ID data from your iPad. You do not need to keep any data on your iPad. The iPad will be completely refreshed including removal of all data and apps.
If I Sign Out of iCloud on My iPad Will I Lose Everything?
No, signing out of iCloud account doesn’t remove all your iPad files. You will have a choice to keep some of your data on the device such as contacts, notes, iCloud Photo Library, etc. This will depends on your choice. But again, this data will be removed during the refresh, so there is no need to keep the data on your iPad.
For example, if “Find My iPhone” has been turned on, you should note that at the point of signing out of iCloud, Apple will offer you the choice between:
- Deleting the data in your iPad.
- Keeping the data in your iPad.
Your choice will not affect the data stored on the iCloud server.
Signing out of iCloud deregisters your iPad from Apple servers, and halts the synchronization of data between your iPad and Apple servers. All the data stored in iCloud will remain intact, and iCloud would continue to sync data on other devices that share that same iCloud account.
Before you sign out of iCloud account from your iPad, you should back up your important files such as contacts, photos, emails, notes, etc. You should go to Settings > (Your Name) > iCloud. You will then have a toggle option next to applications to store their data in iCloud.
