How to change your password (Updated)

Updated:

To change your password at any time, follow these easy steps.

NB: You can only change your password if you know your current password. If you have forgotten your password and would like it to be reset, please see Tech.

1. Click on the System Preferences icon on your dock (the bar full of applications at the bottom of your screen).

(If you don't have System Preferences in your dock for some reason, you can select System Preferences… from theApple menu at the far left of the Menu Bar.)

2. Click on the Users & Groups preference pane under System.

3. If you are on your account, it will automatically be selected.  If you are using the admin account, you will have to click on your name on the box of the left.  Click the Change Password... button.

4. Change your password by typing your old password as requested, then a new password in the Password field. Finally, type the new again in the Verify field. The key button next to the New Password field is the Password Assistant, and will allow you to judge the quality (difficulty to guess) of your password, and also allows you to have a password randomly generated for you.

Click the highlighted Change Password button.
  1. Close the Users & Groups window by clicking on the red button in the upper left hand corner. A dialog box will inform you that your Keychain password has changed as well. Click OK, and then click the red button again.
