The keychain is a file on Macs that stores your saved passwords on the Web and elsewhere. It is protected with your account password so that undesirables can't get easy access to your banking information. However, if your password is changed in the wrong way, the keychain will stop working correctly.
To fix it:
- Click the Spotlight magnifying glass at the top right of your screen.
- Search for Keychain Access and click on the program when it appears.
- Click on "login" at the top-left of the window.
- Click the Edit menu > 'Change Password for Keychain "login"…'
- Enter your current password in all three boxes. This will make sure that the keychain knows your correct password.
- If it fails, your "current" password might be a previous password you used. It may be your username under special circumstances. The "new" and "verify" should match you computer login password.
If you can't complete step 5, these steps will work, but your computer will forget any passwords you saved on the web or in other programs.
- Click on "login" at the top-left again to select it.
- File menu > 'Delete Keychain "login"…'
- Confirm that you are deleting it.
- Log out and back in again.
- Agree to create a new keychain when prompted.
