Self Service is a program that lets you install additional software directly to your computer. This way of installing software does not require any administrator access and therefore is easier for users to do on their own.
First, open the Self Service application. Either search for it in Spotlight or open it from the Applications folder (open a new Finder window and select Applications from the list on the left).

Enter the username and password for your account and then click the 'Login' button. The username is your Burke ID: first 3 letters of your last name, first letter of your first name, and then 0 (for most people), e.g. pand0 or whia0. The password is your SIS password.

You will be presented with a grid of available software. To install an application click the grey 'Install' button next to its icon. (As an example, we will be installing Alexandria.)

A progress bar at the top of the screen will show the progress of the installation.

Once the bar is full the software is fully installed in the Applications folder and ready to use.
